Safe Sanctuaries 101: Basic Volunteer Training

This 30-minute training for local church volunteers working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults covers the basics of Safe Sanctuaries and why it’s important for your local church to implement it. In your local setting, you will find it is easier to follow directives and put boundaries in place if you understand why it is necessary. Presented by: Allison Lindsey (Nurture Team, chair) and Suzanne Akins (Connectional Ministries) with Derek Harrison (youth director, Tifton First UMC).

If you are the staff person or coordinator for children and youth at your local church, you can use this Safe Sanctuaries training video to help train your volunteers. To increase accountability, our recommendation is for each local church to create training opportunities where volunteers/staff watch the video together, facilitate discussion around the topics, and keep a current record of those who have been fully trained. If staff or volunteers are unable to attend a scheduled training, a signed acknowledgement form for watching the video is recommended.

If you have questions, please reach out to Suzanne Akins at suzanne@sgaumc.com.
