Annual Multiculturalism Luncheon Celebrating Diversity

Diversity celebrated at third annual Multicultural Luncheon

The third annual Multicultural Luncheon, held Feb. 9 at Cordele First UMC, was an inspirational celebration of our differences and commonalities in the South Georgia Conference.

Dr. Nora Colemenares, a native of Venezuela who serves in Global Ministries as the Senior Manager of Congregational Resources, Mission Engagement Unit, was the keynote speaker. Dr. Colemenares shared about what it means to be a multicultural church and nation. Her comments included points of celebration about the beauty and gifts of our differences made stronger through our unity.

Clergy from across the South Georgia Conference, including Revs. Michael Culbreth (ConneXion Church) Larry Rollins (Cordele First UMC), and Jin-Won Park (Korean Savannah), shared from their relevant capacities about the joys, challenges, and growth opportunities of the multicultural church. We are grateful for those South Georgia laity who participated and served. Patsy Thomas, a member of ML Harris UMC, served as the program liturgist.

Multiculturalism was celebrated with Spanish and Korean cuisine prepared by the Cordele First UMC Hispanic/Latino congregants and the Korean Savannah UMC congregation, respectively.

We look forward to next year's Multicultural Luncheon and hope that all will come out and celebrate our conference's diversity! Thanks to all who participated. Special thanks to the Multicultural Luncheon Design Team, Cordele First UMC for hosting, and Rev. Larry Rollins for being host pastor.
