Archives and History

The Moore Methodist Museum is the official repository for the Archives and History of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and is located on the grounds of Epworth by the Sea on St Simons Island.  There is an extensive library with information concerning Methodism from the beginning in England with the Wesleys, continuing through its early establishment in America, and the unifications in 1940 and in 1968, along with a great deal regarding Methodism in the South Georgia Conference.  There are also Methodist biographies, including handwritten diaries, and a complete set of Conference Journals and Methodist Disciplines.

The Museum houses a magnificent collection of Georgia history containing many rare treasures including a 9 foot statue of John Wesley, wax figure of Bishop Arthur J. Moore, collection of local church plates and Bishop Moore's personal collection from China and Korea.  Admittance is free of charge and personal tours may be booked for a nominal fee.  We conduct research for people both in person and through email.  Please contact either the director or assistant director with any questions or research requests.

We appreciate your support in our Ministry of Memory and hope to see you soon.
