Anyone who ministers to others is potentially vulnerable to becoming extremely powerful. The temptation exists for church professionals no less than for any other human being. This temptation may result in the abuse of that power, sometimes sexually. This seminar is designed for youth directors, children's ministers, and other lay church professionals employed by a local church. It will include lecture, video, and small group interaction designed to foster productive discussion and a real seeking for clarity, understanding, and moral vision.
Topics include the following:
· Setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
· When Church professionals breach sexual ethical standards,
who is affected, and what are the consequences?
· When does an expression of affection become abusive?
· The role of feelings in sexual ethics in the work place.
· The hidden factors that can place church professionals at risk.
CLERGY COUNSELING SERVICES
The Conference Pastoral Counselor’s services are primarily intended for clergy, spouses, and minor children of the South Georgia Conference. Professional staff members serving local churches also qualify as time and resources permit. The Conference Pastoral Counselor also provides consultation for clergy who counsel parishioners.
The Conference Pastoral Counselor may see clergy, their families, and other professional staff members for an initial evaluation and then refer to a South Georgia Network provider. Since clergy members serving full-time are covered under the conference insurance, they must see a United Behavioral Health paneled provider. In rare instances this requirement may be waived.
Payments from the Conference Pastoral Counselor’s office to a non-network provider ARE NOT authorized without express written permission from the CPC.
All clergy are encouraged to call the Conference Pastoral Counselor for help, guidance, and care, which impacts their personal, family, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
