ABOUT US
Our Mission:
To create by 2010 at least 50 new or revitalized congregations whose mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Note: While conference budget constraints may slow the implementation of this mission, it is still a goal for which we should strive.
Our Vision:
1. To create a “culture of new congregational development” within the South Georgia Annual Conference that embraces congregations which are:
Biblically-based
Disciple-making
Wesleyan
Multi-cultural
Mission-minded
Culturally relevant
Cutting edge
Innovative with worship
Well-equipped
Bold
2. To help create a mindset within the Conference that sees the church as an organism rather than an organization.
3. To invite every church, all laity, every pastor, all Conference offices and committees to recognize, affirm, and enthusiastically support New and Revitalized Congregational Development as one of the most effective methods of making disciples of the growing population of unchurched, dechurched, and underchurched persons within the South Georgia Annual Conference.
Points of Struggle:
We continue to look for gifted leaders, called by God, to this vital ministry. New and revitalized congregational development is not for the faint-hearted.
Funding is a struggle. We are limited in what we can do because of funds available. The fact that South Georgia has not been intentional in starting new churches during recent decades is causing strain on all parts of our connectional ministry. God will not honor our efforts if our motivation is to found new churches so that they can pay apportionments. Such motivation is an affront to the Almighty and an insult to those we seek to reach. However, birthing strong churches to help us increase our connectional ministries will be the natural byproduct.
Our mission is clear. Our resolve is high. Our opportunities are immense. |
