The 2010 Black Church Summit, a gathering for clergy and laity from black churches across the South Georgia Conference, is set for September 23-25, 2010, at Vision of Jesus UMC in Macon, Ga. The theme for the Summit is “Reaching New People for Christ.” Featured preachers for the three-day event are the Rev. Candace Lewis and Dr. Winston O. Worrell.
Rev. Lewis is an ordained elder from the Florida Annual Conference. Upon graduation from Gammon Theological Seminary, she was appointed to plant a new church. Candace and a team of committed laity have spent the last 12 years successfully planting the New Life Community UMC, a new African American congregation in Jacksonville, Fla. Their new book, A New Way-Planting, Starting & Revitalizing Ministries, will be available through Discipleship Resources soon. Candace is a sought after preacher, leader, coach, consultant and passionate servant of the church.
Dr. Worrell serves as Director of the World Methodist Evangelism Institute, a ministry of the World Methodist Council and Emory University, where he has served for the past 18 years. He holds a doctorate in evangelism from Emory University. Winston’s most recent text is a 9 session training workbook with teacher’s guide on
Rev. Reggie Williams, Senior Pastor of Vision of Jesus UMC, is the Dean of the 2010 Black Church Summit. Rev. Denise Walton, Senior Pastor of South Columbus UMC, will be the 2010 Summit Preacher. Other leaders for the Summit include Rev. Marcia Williams, Senior Pastor of Smith Chapel UMC, leading “Reaching People Through Community Partnerships;” Mr. Jeremy Wilson, youth director at Forest Hills UMC, leading “Reaching People Through the Internet,” and Mr. Derick Greene, manager of Clear Channel Radio Station, leading “ Reaching People Through Radio.”
A special hotel rate of $77 per night for Black Church Summit participants has been secured with LaQuinta Inn & Suites, Macon West (4615 Chambers Road). A $20 housing scholarship will be automatically applied to that amount each night for participants to help cover the hotel cost. Deadline for discounted rate is August 23.
Cost for the event is $25 before August 15. After August 15 registration goes up to $35. Banquet tickets are an additional $20 for Summit participants, and $25 for those attending the banquet only.
