Georgia PAUMCS Conference – August 25-28
The Georgia Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries (PAUMCS) invites you to a weekend of continuing education, learning and networking August 25-28, at Epworth By The Sea on St. Simons Island.  Meeting under the theme “Building on Your God-Given Strengths,” the conference and retreat are open to all secretaries, administrative assistants, finance administrators and other office personnel (paid/volunteer), full or part-time, in the United Methodist Church. Clergy Sexual Ethics Workshop – September 8
A Sexual Ethics Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Tifton First United Methodist Church, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. This workshop is required every three years for persons serving under appointment by the Bishop (clergy, local pastors, extension ministers, appointed lay speakers). Please note that spouses and lay employees who are not appointed by the bishop are not eligible to attend the workshop.

Magnolia Manor 5K Run & Love Walk – September 10
Saturday, September 10 is the biggest fundraising event of the year for Magnolia Manor's The League of the Good Samaritan. This is the date of the Magnolia Manor 5K Run & Love Walk. The run begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Registration and beginning ceremonies will take place at the Clarke W. Duncan Wellness Center in Americus. Make plans to support this event by gathering participants to walk or run, by sponsoring the event, or simply giving a donation. Safe Sanctuaries Training, Columbus – September 17
A Safe Sanctuaries training day will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church in Columbus on Saturday, September 17, from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Safe Sanctuaries is the name commonly given by local United Methodist Annual Conferences and local churches to their individual efforts to make conference, district, and local church programs welcoming and safe for children and youth.  For more information, contact Doreen Smalls at doreen@sgaumc.com or 888-266-7642.

Methodist Children’s Home Sunday – September 18
Every local church in South Georgia is encouraged to receive a special Work Day Offering on Sunday, September 18 to support the ministry of The Methodist Home for Children and Youth.

Valdosta District Camp Meeting - September 18-22
The 41st annual J.D. Tygart Valdosta District Camp Meeting will be held Sunday, September 18 through Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Camp Tygart. Evening services begin at 7 p.m. with pre-worship music starting at 6:45 p.m.  Covered-dish suppers will be shared at 6 p.m. each evening. A nursery will be available.  The preacher for the week will be Valdosta District Superintendent Rev. Henry C. KidzQuest Children’s Retreat – Sept. 30 – Oct. 2
The South Georgia Conference’s annual children's retreat, KidzQuest, is set for September 30 - October 2.  Intended for third- through sixth-grade students, this is an exciting event students won't want to miss!  Visit www.sgaumc.org for details.

United Methodist Women Annual Meeting – October 15
The 39th annual meeting of the South Georgia Conference United Methodist Women will be held October 15, 2011, at Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon.  UMW from across the conference will celebrate 142 years of mission and ministry.

Bishop's Hours

Bishop James R. King, Jr., episcopal leader of the South Georgia Conference, will again be visiting all nine districts this fall for the 2011 Bishop’s Hour.  These Bishop’s Hours are designed to be an intentional time for Bishop King to be in each district sharing with both laity and clergy.  Mark your calendar now for your district's Bishop's Hour.  For more detailed information, contact your district office.
