Macon native Jim Towson, Jr. has joined the South Georgia Conference Office of Connectional Ministries staff as Associate Director for Life Span Ministries. Towson, who began on June 1, succeeds Rev. Adam Ricker, who has been appointed to start a new church in Richmond Hill.
"We are tremendously blessed to have Jim join our team,” said Dr. Brad Brady, Assistant to the Bishop for Connectional Ministries. “As expected, Jim is already fully immersed with our summer camp staff in creating an engaging and spiritually dynamic experience where lives are being changed.
"God has blessed Jim with a faith journey and various ministry experiences that will add value to the congregations and disciple-making ministries of our conference through the Connectional Ministries team.”
A lifelong United Methodist and University of Georgia graduate, Towson was previously on staff at the UGA Wesley Foundation. In addition to one-on-one discipling of students, he served as the ministry’s technical director and coordinated their newly formed Friday night worship service. He also worked with Tuckston United Methodist Church as their production and communications director, supervising the weekly worship services.
As the Associate Director for Life Span Ministries, Towson serves as the director of the Conference’s camping ministry for children and youth, which are attended by more than 2,000 young people each year. He will also work closely with the Nurture discipleship team giving special attention to faith formation through the various age-level ministries and will support local churches as they work with Safe Sanctuaries.
“Our conference is jam packed with really amazing people with tons of resources, and I’m really excited to be able to work with people and be able to help them to affect other people and to cast the vision to do that,” he said. “My heart is to help people see that the Lord is alive and that He is real.”
A former summer camp counselor and worship leader, Towson graduated from the University of Georgia in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He and his wife Gina reside on St. Simons Island where he will work out of the Connectional Ministries Office located on Epworth By The Sea’s campus.
