World-renowned Boys' Choir to perform free
concert at Savannah Civic Center

The world-renowned Tallahassee Boys' Choir and the newly formed Boys' Choir of Mitchell County, Georgia, will perform a concert on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center. This concert is free and open to the public.

The Boys' Choirs of Tallahassee and of Mitchell County are community outreach programs for males ages 8-18. The ultimate goal of both choirs is to prepare young men for the twenty-first
century through music, discipline, and academic excellence. With its motto "No Excuses," the choirs continue to grow in popularity on the local, state, national and international level.

In its 10-year history, the Tallahassee Boys' Choir has been honored by Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network, the President's Coming Up Taller initiative (through the National Endowment for the Arts) and CBS News. The choir has performed at Florida 's Gubernatorial Inauguration ceremonies and has been recognized by Florida 's State Legislature. The Boys' Choir has received first place at Heritage Music Festivals for Nine Consecutive Years.

The Boys' Choir has also opened for stars such as singer Natalie Cole, appeared on a program with actress Jane Fonda, and performed with gospel legend Albertina Walker. As a part of its annual summer tour in 2000, the Boys' Choir participated in a workshop with the nationally and internationally acclaimed Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York City.

Mr. Earle Lee, Jr. is Director of both choirs. Mr. Lee holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work and is a Ph.D. Candidate in Child Development at Florida State University.

This concert is being sponsored by the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church in conjunction with their Annual Conference Session June 3-7 at the Savannah Civic Center.
